Hilo Brewing Company

Hilo Brewing Company

Where: 275 East Kawili Street, Hilo Call: 808-934-8211 Website: hilobrewingco.com Hours: Tuesday – Sunday: 12-6pm; Closed Mondays Review: Breweries and dogs seem to go hand-in-hand, and Hilo Brew is no exception! They love LOVE dogs and welcome them inside or outside of the brewery. We love going here, and even when it’s pouring cats or dogs (no pun intended!), it’s still a wonderful place to sit and relax with your dog and a beer. They have a few pre-made food items (hummus, a meat and cheese charcuterie, and one other item I can’t recall), but frequently have a food truck or pizza oven there to provide some tasty grinds. Check out their social media, which they update daily with any special food trucks. Currently there is no on-site...

Ola Brew (Kailua-Kona)

Ola Brew (Kailua-Kona)

Where: 74-5598 Luhia Street, Kailua-Kona (located across from Doggy Detail, around the corner from Island Naturals Market) Call: 808-339-3599 Website: olabrewco.com Hours: Mon – Thurs: 11:30-10pm; Fri & Sat: 11:30am-11pm; Sat: 11:30-8pm (NOTE: Kitchen is currently only open Tuesday through Saturday) Review: I have a monthly routine: Drop off Fluffy to Doggy Detail for grooming, run errands, go to Costco, and then pick up Fluffy 2.5 – 3 hours later and get lunch at Ola Brew. Surprisingly, their outdoor area is pleasantly breezy and cool, and there’s lots of room for Fluffy to lay down next to me (but out of the way of servers and other patrons) and connect her leash to my chair or railing. They have of course their brewed in-house beers, but also their Hard Tea and Seltzers (Orange Vanilla is my fave). Their food is delicious, and their flatbread pizzas are fabulous if I have friends with me. Lots of dogs come here (Do you blame their owners?), and I have heard that there...

Big Island Brewhaus – Waimea (Kamuela)

Where: 64-1066 Mamalahoa Highway, Waimea (Kamuela) (east of Keck Observatory Administrative offices and across the street from Ippy’s Hawaiian BBQ). If the parking lot is full, you are allowed to park on the other side of the church in the grassy area next door. Call: (808) 887-1717 Website: http://bigislandbrewhaus.com/ Open DAILY from 12 – 8:00 p.m. Review: The brewery/restaurant gets crowded, so keep this in mind that lunch time may be the best time to bring in your pup.  Dogs are allowed on the lanai, which CAN get very chilly, breezy, and rainy, so be prepared.  Please keep your brew pup leashed and tucked in by your table out of the pathway.  The servers LOVE dogs and will most likely bring your dog a water bowl, but as always, please bring your own just in case they are busy.  Excellent food with a focus on locally-grown vegetables, meats, and seafood.  Lots of choices including Mexican food, salads, vegetarian, gluten-free, steak, and fantastic locally-brewed beer on tap.  You won’t see...

Volcano Winery

Volcano Winery

***December 2020 Update: Friendly, leashed pups are still allowed at Volcano Winery, but must remain OUTSIDE in their newer outdoor seating area. Still a wonderful place to take your dogs and enjoy some of their wine and charcuterie plate. ***April 2017 Update: I was contacted by one of our viewers who said someone arrived at the Winery with five dogs who were not under control and who chased the cats who reside on the property.  I confirmed with the Winery owners on July 8, 2017 that the Winery still allows friendly, leashed dogs, but as always, please be extremely considerate and grateful (I tip 30 to 50% any time a place accommodates me and my dog)…Call ahead or at least leave your dog outside and check with management first before arriving with your dog and ask if there’s an area that would be best for you and your pup.  Incidents like this give responsible dog owners a bad image.  This is something we are working hard to change on...

Island Lava Java (Kona)

Where: 75-5801 Ali’i Drive, Bldg. 1, Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 Call: (808) 327-2161 Website: http://www.islandlavajava.com Open daily from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. In early 2018, Island Lava Java moved and opened a more spacious and beautiful location in Coconut Grove Marketplace, a few doors down from their previous location.  They are now underneath Foster’s Kitchen and yes, STILL dog-friendly.  The General Manager loves dogs and confirmed with me one beautiful morning that he will personally greet the dogs if he is working that day.  They also have a bar area and Happy Hour from 3:30 – 5:30 pm every day.  Servers stopped by the table to meet Fluffy, and they brought us her a bowl of water.  It’s surprisingly cool and breezy there for a fluffy dog.  Highly...
