Forms of payment: Cash, check, and major credit cards August 8, 2015 Tour: Life-long dream come true, Yuka Thompson had been wanting to be a professional dog groomer since she was a child.  She owns and operates her grooming and boarding business out of her beautiful home in Hawi.  (Please see our BOARDING webpage for more information on their overnight dog boarding.)  Even on a hot summer day, the ocean breeze through her home was cool and very peaceful, perfect for even a thick-coat dog.  Her grooming facility is separated from the main house and is neat, extremely clean, and has top-of-the-line equipment and natural products to groom your dog.  She uses different products for the task at hand; MicroTek for itchy dogs, Quadruped Yucca Ultra for fleas, Coat Handler for all-purpose, and even separate cleaners for the face, including a...

My Review: My friends from the mainland stayed here with their Golden Retriever, “Toko,” for 6 weeks in February 2015 and absolutely loved it.  I stopped by one afternoon to check it out and instantly fell in love with the apartment...

Mana Road (Waimea-Kamuela)

Mana Road (Waimea-Kamuela)

Location: Mana Road in Waimea (Kamuela) off of Mamalahoa Hwy. (Hwy. 19) near Mile Marker 55 and Hawaiian Homestead Farmers Market Directions: From Mamalahoa Hwy. (Hwy. 19) from downtown Waimea, you will pass the Hawaiian Homestead Farmers Market near Mile Marker 55, and almost immediately turn RIGHT onto Mana Road.  Look for the sign for Veterinary Associates on the roadside.  Drive all the way to the fork in the road, and then turn LEFT.  The road is paved for a mile or so and then turns into compact clay/dirt.  If you are new here, you might want to park at the Water Pump Station (where the pavement ends) and hike from there to give you a sense of what Mana Road has to offer.  The further you drive down Mana Road, the less traffic (pedestrians, joggers, bicyclists, and drivers). Description: If you are looking for cooler (possibly misty, foggy) weather, this is the place…Rolling green pastures with cattle, horses, and a variety of birds including owls, hawks, and turkeys…something to...

Waikoloa Beach – Anaeho’omalu Bay

Location: Waikoloa Beach at Anaeho’omalu Bay, Hawaii 96738 Very IMPORTANT Directions: From Kona, take Highway 19 north toward the Waikoloa Beach Resort Area. Turn left at Waikoloa Beach Road (near Mile Marker #76). Turn left at the road across from Kings’ Shops (Follow the signs for “Lava Lava Beach Club.”  Parking for the beach is at the end of this road. HOWEVER, dogs are NOT allowed in the main beach parking lot, and security is strict.  This can be confusing.  You can either drop off your dogs at Lava Lava Beach Club with a friend to hold them while you go back and park in the main parking lot OR you can park at Lava Lava Beach Club (LLBC) in the gravel overflow parking lot.  Currently LLBC is open daily for lunch and dinner 11:30 am – 9:00 pm with weekend (Saturday and Sunday) brunch starting at 10:00 am, but LLBC recently (in early 2015) hired a security guard to keep beach-goers and paddlers out of their small parking lot...

Lava Lava Beach Club – Anaeho’omalu Bay, Hawaii

Cost: 4 cottages that range from $450 to $500/night Website: http://lavalavabeachclub.com/stay-play/ Contact: 808-769-LAVA (5282) (Before booking online, please call management for prior approval of your dog) August 2, 2013 Review: An air-conditioned (YES! MAHALO!), tiled 576 square foot beachfront cottage where your dog(s) will receive dog treats, a fluffy dog bed pillow, and a coconut shell water bowl (for the smaller dogs).  Hale Moana is the 2nd cottage over from the restaurant and is the one available pet-friendly unit since it is the only all-tile floor cottage.  It is also ADA-compliant, which we found to our benefit since it also included a protective sturdy railing along the edge of the lanai where we could easily secure the dogs’ leashes while we were on the lanai enjoying the live music (starts around 5 p.m. and is the perfect volume for us to listen while being able to have our own conversation).  By the way, they deliver complimentary pupus (delicious Ahi Poke on a crisp rice shell during our stay) and Mai Tais to...
