Fence: YES! Beautifully, fully-fenced grassy yard immediately adjacent to where horses are kept, so keep this in mind!
**Please note that since my review in 2015, it appears that the owner has made some improvements (including adding a hot tub!) to these units, so there may be some slight differences from the photos below. I believe that the unit featured below has been turned into the 2-bedroom apartment with the hot tub.
My Review: My friends from the mainland stayed here with their Golden Retriever, “Toko,” for 6 weeks in February 2015 and absolutely loved it. I stopped by one afternoon to check it out and instantly fell in love with the apartment and the Kohala Ranch area. Horses and cattle roam freely in the area as you drive through the community, so might not be a good place to stay if your dog(s) does not like big animals. The apartment is downstairs, and the owners live upstairs where their two friendly dogs reside, but it still feels very private and is quiet and tranquil. Toko enjoyed playing with Deborah and John’s two dogs. A dog bed is provided, and the rooms, kitchen, bathroom, lanai, and laundry room are cute, immaculate, and in perfect condition. This place is neat and clean! Very nice breeze flowing through the apartment, and the ocean view was amazing. Perfect for an island vacation! Highly recommend.
The vrbo link does not work for this property. Are they still renting? We need a place to stay for 1-2 nights (July 4th) to get our dog away from the fireworks here in Waikoloa Village and the resorts. He is terrified by them. Thought maybe this property would be good. If you have any other ideas for places away from neighborhood fireworks, I’d appreciate hearing from you
Aloha Mary, this Kohala property has made some nice upgrades to their vacation rental. They offer two rentals on the same property: https://www.vrbo.com/402623 and https://www.vrbo.com/383020 You may also consider staying in Volcano Village.
