After taking Margie to Kapa’au Vet this morning, I drove over to Hawi Farmers’ Market (no dogs allowed) to buy some homemade dog treats from Sarah Doyle who operates Blue Dragon Farms.  She uses fruits and vegetables from the farm for the dog treats, so I know they are fresh and healthy for my dogs.  She suggested I check out dog-friendly Kohala Village Hub Pub, so I walked next door and through the open doorway of this beautifully decorated building and was greeted by staff.  It is very open and airy, all shaded, with cool, tile floors, and very spacious…so unbelievably perfect for dogs!  I walked up to the counter and was impressed to see a “Pet Policy” sign on the wall (They also have Kohala Village Inn, a pet-friendly hotel!).  The board above listed all the types of smoothies available with a side chalk board listing their breakfast special…an egg scramble with spinach and local lamb sausage with a side of local sweet potato hashbrowns (It was YUMMY!).  They have an espresso bar, but I opted for a “Help Yourself” cup of their freshly-brewed Big Island Coffee Roasters coffee (Voted Hawaii’s Favorite Artisan Beverage, 2015), which I have a monthly subscription to!  I sat down at one of the many picnic tables with my cup of coffee and looked around at all the empty tables.  I would think this place would be packed, especially on a Saturday.  While I waited for my food, someone brought over water.  This restaurant is a great escape from the Kona heat, is artfully decorated, serves all locally-sourced food, and is the perfect place to bring your friendly, leashed pet.  Check them out!
