Lotus Honolulu at Diamond Head

Lotus Honolulu at Diamond Head

2885 Kalakaua Avenue Honolulu, HI 96815 (808) 922-1700 http://www.lotushonoluluhotel.com/ Restrictions: They allow one dog (20 lbs and under) per room.  Dogs do need to be in a kennel if they are left unattended in the room. Fee: Refundable $100 deposit per room.  Daily fee of $35 per dog. Review and photos by our friends at Aloha Pups: “The Lotus is amazing! It is located at the quieter end of the Waikiki strip, about one block from the Waikiki Aquarium. There is a dog-friendly park (Kapiolani Park) across the street and beach access behind the hotel. They also leave a cute doggie basket (filled with treats, blanket, water bowl, and toys) in the room upon arrival. This is definitely our go-to place for staycations.  They also have a complimentary daily wine hour in the lobby for humans to enjoy.  Dogs are allowed everywhere in the hotel except in the restaurant.  There is a side entrance for access to the park. Staff is SUPER friendly and always greeted the dogs when we left/returned...

Dog-Friendly Lodging on Oahu

Dog-Friendly Lodging on Oahu

Traveling with your dog can be a lot of fun until you try finding a hotel that will welcome you and your pooch. To make it a little bit easier, I’ve scoured the island for the most dog-friendly accommodations, and put together this list. Our Dog-Friendly Lodging directory lists those establishments that welcome dogs, along with their detailed pet policies and fees. This is no recycled list of dog-friendly hotels that is so commonplace on the web. Each of these establishments has been individually contacted to inquire about their policies toward dogs, and I have found a few who I haven’t contacted, but their listings clearly state that pets will be considered.  In your travels, if you should come upon some dog-friendly establishment not listed here, or one that has changed their policies, please contact me and let me know. I try hard to keep this list updated on a monthly basis, but as you can imagine, these policies tend to change without notice, so be sure to contact the establishment before...

Lava Lava Beach Club – Anaeho’omalu Bay, Hawaii

Lava Lava Beach Club – Anaeho’omalu Bay, Hawaii

Cost: 4 cottages that range from $450 to $500/night Website: http://lavalavabeachclub.com/stay-play/ Contact: 808-769-LAVA (5282) (Before booking online, please call management for prior approval of your dog) August 2, 2013 Review: An air-conditioned (YES! MAHALO!), tiled 576 square foot beachfront cottage where your dog(s) will receive dog treats, a fluffy dog bed pillow, and a coconut shell water bowl (for the smaller dogs).  Hale Moana is the 2nd cottage over from the restaurant and is the one available pet-friendly unit since it is the only all-tile floor cottage.  It is also ADA-compliant, which we found to our benefit since it also included a protective sturdy railing along the edge of the lanai where we could easily secure the dogs’ leashes while we were on the lanai enjoying the live music (starts around 5 p.m. and is the perfect volume for us to listen while being able to have our own conversation).  By the way, they deliver complimentary pupus (delicious Ahi Poke on a crisp rice shell during our stay) and Mai Tais to...

The Poolhouse (Waikoloa Village) (NO LONGER ALLOWS PETS)

NOTE: Unfortunately, a few irresponsible dog owners have taken advantage of this dog-friendly AirBnB, causing extensive damage, so the owner no longer allows pets. Accommodations: 1-bedroom 1-story studio unit (accommodates 2 people) with full kitchen and bathroom with walk-in shower (and outdoor shower) in Waikoloa Village (in walking distance of Waikoloa Elementary School) and a large POOL for you and your dogs’ use! Cost: $155 to $165/night (2 night minimum stay) + $75 cleaning fee. Website: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1714262 Contact: Kelsey through the above Air BnB link. Fence:  YES…completely fenced-in!  Since there is a pool, County code requires a fence with latching gate.  From the parking area, you will walk through a gate and walk down two flights of outdoors patio stairs to the pool deck where The Poolhouse is located.  NOTE: If you have an elderly dog who cannot navigate stairs, you will have to carry him/her down the stairs.  Once you reach the pool deck at the bottom of the stairs, then it will be easy for any dog to...
