Hawaii Island Humane Society’s (HIHS) Central Bark Dog Parks consists of two dog parks (one acre for large dogs and a completely separate smaller area for small dogs no larger than 25 pounds) and is the first phase of the humane society’s Animal Community Center (ACC), which encompasses 12 acres that were once an orchid farm that was donated to HIHS.  Subsequent phases of the ACC include larger areas to house more animals, a cat barn, welcome center, veterinary clinic, kupuna room, and an education center. Ultimately, HIHS will move all of its Kona shelter operations to the ACC.  There are many ways to donate to the maintenance of these amazing dog parks or towards the other phases of the ACC, which are still in great need of funding.  Please visit www.hihs.org/animal-community-center to donate.
